Indian Diabetes Risk Score

Four questions, the score Indian clinics use.

Age
Waist (at the navel)
Physical activity
Diabetes in parents
How this is worked out, and its limits

The IDRS (Mohan et al., 2005, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation) scores four factors to 0–100: age 0/20/30, waist 0/10/20, activity 0/10/20/30, family history 0/10/20. 60 or more is high risk, 30 to 50 moderate, under 30 low. In Indian community studies its sensitivity is about 72% and specificity about 60%.

It is a screening score, not a test: it tells you how urgently a blood test is worth doing. It does not apply if you already have diabetes or are pregnant.
